Masongate Farm, owned by Richard (Dick) and Hattie Martin,
has been a lifetime dream for this couple who started out
as “Childhood Sweethearts” and married very young.
Dick and Hattie started in horses with their daughter, Jill,
over 30 years ago. In the beginning, they had a grade horse
and attended the local ETI Corral shows. They soon graduated
to a beautiful Quarter Horse mare that Jill showed successfully
for many years. Jill grew up and moved on to other things
buy Hattie’s interest never wavered. She purchased her
first Arabian horse in 1987 and has never looked back! Hattie’s
main interest is in breeding. She says that she “loves
the new beginnings”.
Dick and Hattie breed their collection of mares to a variety
of top stallions and they have had definite objectives in
mind from the start: their goal is to product foals that have
great athleticism, beauty, correctness and quality. “We
have wanted from the beginning to breed and show the best
horses that we can. We have been patient and selective and
we can honestly say that we’re very pleased with our
success in this business,” says Hattie.
Hattie looks forward to each springtime when the new lives
begin and unfold into individuals with hope and wonder. Among
the horses that Hattie and Dick have bred are HM Abracadabra,
a multi National Champion in several disciplines and Inkredible
Heat, a double National Top Ten halter gelding.
Although Hattie’s main interest is in her horses, she
also loves to paint and to care for her roses and flowers.
Hattie plants and maintains all of the flowers on the ranch.
Dick is a recently retired contractor enjoying renovating
the ranch, playing golf and working on his Hot Rods.
It may have taken Dick and Hattie a long time to get Masongate
Farm to where it is today but nobody will deny that it has
been built with the labor of love!
